FAQ
Shipping
When does my coffee ship?
We roast Tuesdays and Fridays. Orders placed by 8am PT on a roast day ship that afternoon. Orders after 8am PT ship the next roast day.
How long does it take to arrive?
USPS Ground Advantage: 3–5 business days within the US. UPS 2-Day available at checkout for time-sensitive gifts.
Do you ship internationally?
Canada and Mexico only at the moment. International shipping is a logistics nightmare for fresh-roasted coffee and we'd rather not do it badly. Sorry — we know that's a lot of you.
Subscriptions
How do subscriptions work?
Pick a plan, pick a delivery cadence (every 2 / 4 / 6 weeks), and we ship coffee to you on that cycle. Skip a shipment, pause for the season, change your address, or cancel any time from your account.
Can I switch which coffee I get?
Anytime. Log in, hit "change selection," done. Changes made 48h before your next ship date apply to that shipment.
What's the difference between The Rotation and The Discovery?
Rotation is one bag a month of our house coffees, rotating through the lineup. Good if you want variety but trust us to pick.
Discovery is one bag a month of a single-origin we hand-pick — often new arrivals or seasonal lots that aren't on the main site. Good if you want surprises.
Numbered subscription — what's the catch?
No catch. You get each month's numbered drop (limited 200–400 bag releases) before it goes public. If you don't want a given month, skip it.
Grind
Should I get whole bean or pre-ground?
Whole bean, every time, if you have a grinder. Coffee starts losing flavor within minutes of being ground.
If you don't have a grinder, pre-ground is fine — just pick the grind that matches your brew method, and aim to drink the bag within 2 weeks of opening.
Which grind for which method?
See the brew guide for specifics. Short version: espresso = fine, pour-over = medium, French press = coarse.
Coffee details
How do I know when the coffee was roasted?
Roast date is stamped on the bottom of every bag. We don't ship coffee more than 5 days old.
Is the coffee organic / fair trade / Rainforest Alliance certified?
Some of it is — certifications vary by lot. We work direct with producers and pay above commodity prices regardless of certification, so we don't lead with the labels. If a specific cert matters to you, ask and we'll tell you what each bag has.
Is it decaf-friendly?
Yes — Soft Tone is our Swiss Water-processed Colombian decaf. Single-origin, real flavor, no caffeine.
Returns + problems
What if my coffee shows up bad?
Email hello@tone.coffee with your order number and what went wrong. We'll reship the same day. We don't ask for the bag back — coffee returns don't really make sense.
Can I return unopened coffee?
Within 14 days, yes — full refund. Just write us first so we can issue a label.
I got the wrong grind. Help.
Write us. We'll ship the right grind, same day, no charge. Don't worry about the wrong-grind bag.
Wholesale + cafes
Do you wholesale?
Yes — Bay Area cafes, restaurants, and offices. Minimums are low (5 lb/week). Write wholesale@tone.coffee for our wholesale list and pricing.
